[ Her dress was more uncomfortable than she was willing to admit, but it was incredibly flattering, too: such were the pains of being a socialite and attending parties as fancy as these. Oh, well- the other women looked just as uncomfortable, too, when they were sure that no one was looking, but it was all for the sake of beauty, she guessed.

The drink in her hand was more of a prop than anything else, more alcoholic than she had originally anticipated. It was that and the combination of the heat and bustle of the party that had her a little light headed, but despite it all, she was having fun, too.

So Michiru slips in to stand next to Haruka, gently interrupting the blond from whatever-the-hell-it-is she's doing. ]

Are you having fun?

[ Michiru sees that challenge and pretends that she doesn't. ]

Would you like me to get you some water?

I'm fine. I think I'll go get a refill, actually.

[ Haruka she is not going to let you win this... ]

Really? Mm, me too, I think.

[ a most gentlemanly offer of the arm. ] Come on, then.

[ And Michiru actually giggles softly at the offered arm - she's mildly horrified at herself, but Haruka was right, that drink had been stronger than she'd thought - and takes it. ]

Lead the way.

[ that laugh is much less restrained than the one Haruka's used to hearing, short and refined and stifled behind a delicately-curled hand -- it's quite the lovely sound, in fact.

she leads them both to the bar, ordering another fill of whiskey for herself. she admittedly has no idea what that ungodly pink liquid in Michiru's glass was, so she avoids taking the liberty of ordering for her, as well. ]

[ That ungodly pink liquid in her drink was delicious, and Michiru is happy to order another for herself, smiling pleasantly at the bartender. She doesn't release Haruka's arm however, and if she leans just a little into it, who would know? ]

[ Haruka feels the shift in Michiru's weight, as subtle as it is, and finds that she's rather comfortable that way. her fingertips trace the edge of her newly-filled glass, and her gaze flickers towards Michiru's face, though it's a moment longer before she can think of something to say to accompany it. ] You do this kind of thing a lot?

What?

[ And it takes her a moment to fully consider the question. She takes the smallest of sips, not releasing Haruka's arm. ]

No, not at all. I'm usually a little more reserved at parties like this.

[ It's okay to admit that privately to Haruka, right? ]

[ she props her chin up on the back of one hand, head tilting sideways as she emits an appreciative hum. ] I was thinking it's unusual to see you let go, even a bit.

[ And that actually gives her brief pause. ]

I could say the same of you.

[ her brow lifts with honest curiosity. it's harder to be a good judge of character when you yourself are concerned, after all. ] That so?

[ And Michiru is just wondering if it would be a sign of weakness if she asked to sit down. ]

Well- your driving is an exception, I suppose.

[ Haruka would hardly object -- her last drink's begun to take effect, evoking a warmth in her chest and causing the edges of her mind to grow fuzzy.

she's definitely not going to be the one to ask, though. ]

I guess there's only so much freedom we can allow ourselves, huh?

[ And more than anything else, Michiru suddenly doesn't want to be here anymore. She just clears her throat softly, cautiously sipping at her drink. ]

We could allow ourselves the freedom of stepping outside for a minute. It's a little warm in here.

[ Haruka blinks at the suddenness of it, but is happy enough to oblige. ] Sure.

[ She relaxes just subtly at that, tension loosening in her shoulders. ]

Thanks.

[ It's loud in there, and privately, she wants Haruka just to herself, even if it's only while they take a walk around the small garden outside. ]

[ the cool air outside hits like a slap to the face, causing her to suck in a breath through her teeth, first step through the door staggering slightly. once Haruka grows accustomed to it, though, she finds it pleasantly refreshing. she didn't realize how suffocating it was inside, or how warm her face felt -- surely as a direct result of the former, and nothing more.

it's a nice night. the moon is near-full, the sky cloudless and scattered with stars.

it's only a half-conscious motion when she pulls Michiru closer. ]

[ Perhaps only half-conscious on Haruka's part, but Michiru is almost hyper-aware of her movements, now. She smiles and doesn't comment, though she does shiver hard, just once. Honestly, she's not really bothered by the cold; she had certainly endured worse, but having warmth at her side and nowhere else just made the temperature stand out that much more.

She keeps her eyes skyward. ]

I wonder where Neptune is.

[ Haruka gives a small hum in response, looking up at the sky as well -- though, of course, there's no seeing it from here.

Uranus, Neptune... she'd rather not think about them, anyway. just for this moment, if she can.

she turns her eyes to Michiru. ]

You cold?

I'm fine.

[ And she means it. That doesn't stop her from touching her cheek briefly to Haruka's shoulder, though, smile subtle. ]

I may have had a little too much to drink, though.

[ She had no idea it was possible to be this comfortable. Not just leaning against Haruka- but in general. ]

[ she smiles down at the contact, however short, and finds she doesn't feel the urge to say 'I told you so'. ] Want to go home?

[ And she earnestly appreciates the restraint. ]

If that's alright.

Come on, then. [ she breaks away from Michiru, instantly missing her warmth at her side, and begins to walk. ]

[ And she remains close behind. ]

Should we call a car?
